To create my AI-enhanced resume, I used prompts such as: “Rewrite my resume for an entry-level accounting role focusing on attention to detail, cash handling, and organization” and “Translate customer service and lifeguard experience into skills relevant for accounting or finance.” I also prompted AI to “emphasize accuracy, responsibility, and data-related tasks.”
The main difference between my original resume and the AI-generated version is how my experience is framed. My original resume focused more on lifeguarding duties and customer service tasks, while the new version highlights financial-related skills like handling transactions, maintaining records, and ensuring accuracy. For example, cashier duties were rewritten to emphasize transaction accuracy and register balancing, which are relevant to accounting roles.
I learned that prompt engineering is about being specific with the skills and industry you want to target. By clearly asking for accounting-related strengths, the AI was able to reshape my experience to match what employers in finance are looking for. This showed me that even without direct accounting experience, I can present my background in a way that aligns with the field.
